The Hunar Foundation

The Hunar Foundation (THF) offers international standard vocational training for school graduates and other young adults from the underprivileged communities in Pakistan. Clearly was able to carry out a visual acuity screening project at THF’s first campus, Delhi Mercantile Society Technical Institute (DMSTI).

THF Project at DMSTI

Students at THF have access to well equipped workshops and courses designed to meet industry requirements. Additionally, they are taught information technology, English communication, work ethics, and moral values. As of 2022, the Hunar Foundation has eight institutes and three upcoming institutes. Our THF Project took place at the Delhi Mercantile Society Technical Institute (DMSTI), which opened in 2009.

Using the same preliminary screening method that we use at CFT (please read more here), we measured the visual acuity of all 267 students at DMSTI. With help from The Eye Centre at the South City Hospital Karachi as well as the Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT), we were able to arrange further testing for the 55 students with potential refractive errors. Students with other ophthalmological complications were referred to LRBT for free treatment and surgeries if necessary. Through donations Clearly was able to provide eyeglasses for the students that needed them.
